Christchurch History Society

Formed in 1989 to promote and encourage the public study of local history in Christchurch.  The society is dedicated to the study of the past and the preservation of all aspects of the heritage of Christchurch.  In addition the society is custodians of a large archive of material relating to the history of Christchurch and surrounding areas.  This archive has been collected over the last 100 years by local historians.  Areas of interest include those researching their family history, buildings, industries and heritage of Christchurch.  The society has published numerous local history themed books and booklets.

Other activities are also organised including a programme of talks, boat trip and guided walks.
